Mahle's ebikemotion system uses a 40nm rear hub motor powered by a fully integrated 250wh battery hidden in the downtube. The low system weight combined with a carbon fork and sophisticated aluminium frame means the bike also feels lively without power assistance.

There is almost no drag at all from the motor when it's not engaged.The system has an iwoc button for controlling support levels and a sophisticated app provides an opportunity to adjust the riding feel as well as offering post-ride analysis features.

The frame has mounts for mudguards and rack and a neat hidden kickstand mount. Cable routing is through the frame with cables entering through a specific headset cap to keep the cockpit neat.The esilex can be run with either 700c or 650b wheels.

Rider review:

‘Very pleased with my new Merida eSilex+ 600. After years on my old road bike, I decided to join my mates in gravel riding. Not being as fit as I was I decided on an electric version. It is such great fun and I am now riding twice as much as before. I have even lost weight due to the increase in riding. The Merida eSilex+ bike feels light when riding and most people I meet don’t realise it is an e-bike. The battery is very neat in the frame and with the motor being in the rear hub which is hidden by the disc brake and cassette, eSilex+ 600 looks just like a normal bike. I did go to tubeless so I can run lower tyre pressures, such a comfortable ride. Really pleased with the whole bike!’
