The choice at the same retail price point was a fully loaded Reacto Disc – i.e. Modern, Aero, Disc or the fully loaded, lightweight, traditional calliper Scultura!

Merida set out to create an incredible aero bike, but without the downsides often associated with the category such as harshness and complex solutions that waste workshop time.

The result was “astonishingly comfortable” (Design & Innovation award) and describes as “fast and responsive” and “an absolute peach” (Road CC).

There is only 1 watt difference in efficiency between the calliper and disc brake version, very little sacrifice for the improved braking and extra wheel stiffness due to the 12mm bolt through axles.

Completely redesigned for 2018! Its wind tunnel honed shape improves aerodynamics by 5%, and a new carbon lay up reduces the over all weight significantly. Simplicity was also the key objective as overly complex solutions create a nightmare for mechanics resulting in costly workshop bills. A new DISC version was also added. The difference in aerodynamic efficiency between calliper and disc is less than one watt, but with all that speed on tap, disc brakes make real sense for high speed descending and controlled cornering.

The new REACTO is the lightest, fastest and most comfortable aero road bike in MERIDA’s history with a weight reduction of over 17% and an increase in comfort of 10% in comparison to the previous model. All that was achieved without creating an overly complicated concept, making servicing and maintaining the new REACTO a straight forward affair – aerodynamics simplified.

Comfort has always been a key feature of the REACTO. Many aero bikes suffer from a harsh ride due to larger tube sections and seat posts. Not so on the REACTO where our profiled seat post behaves like a conventional seat post providing a good level of comfort amongst other aero bikes.

Our high-performance carbon models with the CF4 frame feature a completely integrated Vision Metron cockpit to improve aerodynamics and hide the Di2 junction box. The integration also provides a very clean, organic and modern appearance.

All REACTO models feature a full carbon fork with a tapered steerer to give precise, confidence inspiring handling. Aluminium and CF2 carbon models feature a ‘regular’ 1 1/8″ to 1 1/2″ taper. The high-end CF4 frame has a slimmed down front profile and uses a 1 1/8″ to 1 1/4″ taper.

All disc equipped REACTOs feature 12 mm bolt through axles for greater wheel stiffness and precise disc alignment when replacing wheels. CF4 models use the R.A.T system, super fast to open and close.

A forged aluminium part under the front and rear disc brake calliper draw heat away through CNC-milled cooling fins, giving 35% less heat build up and faster temperature reduction for stable braking performance.

For the first time, the REACTO is available in both calliper and disc brake options. We use direct mount calliper and flat mount disc brake standards (with our disc cooler front and rear) for the best braking performance. A flat mount rear calliper is mounted on the chainstay which is stronger for dissipating braking forces but also keeps it protected inside the rear triangle.

Our new REACTO features the proven cable routing of the current SCULTURA with a bigger cable entry on the down tube. There are different caps available for different combinations of Di2, mechanical shifting, disc and rim brake. Additionally, this system is one of the most service friendly cable routing options in the market. The new cable routing has no measurable negative impact in terms of aerodynamics.

The new S-Flex seat post design offers much more comfort over the old design as well as having a lower weight.
