Specialized & Primera: An inspiring journey
The early days of Specialized are very inspiring. Mike Sinyard the founder of Specialized sold his much loved VW camper in the 1970’s to fund a trip around Europe. On this trip he made contacts which enabled him to distribute Italian bike parts in America. This is essentially how Specialized began. This was Mike’s stepping stone to start making his own products under the Specialized name and the first product which was made was in fact a tyre.
On from this Specialized became one of the most innovative brands of their time, from the first production Mountain bike and now onto the most aerodynamic road bikes made so far. All this was driven by Mike’s passion for cycling and him wanting the best products for everyone to enjoy.
We have been lucky enough to meet Mike on a few occasions and his passion for cycling is very evident. I was hooked on Specialized since I bought my first Rockhopper mountain bike 1986, this bike got me hooked on riding off road and has produced some great adventures for me and my family.
At Primera we started selling Specialized in 1992 and have had many exciting years selling and riding them, the whole range is excellent from the tyres to the grips.
One area we have always been very impressed with is the customer service they offer and they are market leaders when it comes to offering product back up. Specialized are very much innovators of cycling and they never stand still, product design is done in their own wind tunnel and the results will blow your mind.
Soon after producing some amazing bikes Specialized wanted to kit out the complete cyclist with Specialized clothing, shoes, shorts, mitts, helmets, jerseys, socks soon became available to make your cycling as enjoyable as possible. If you look round one of our shops you will soon see that Specialized cover everything you would need to kit you out for cycling.
Not just wanting to produce generic products Specialized invest in getting things right! They introduced the BG range which stands for ‘Body Geometry’ This is making sure all contact points are very well catered for enabling greater comfort and lower the risk of irritating pressure points, shorts, shoes, socks, gloves, saddles and footbeds are all designed for greater comfort.
Now once you have decided what bike you would like it’s time to find out what size you are and this is one area Primera and Specialized are very passionate about, the correct fit can increase your pleasure and performance by 100%! At Primera we have been using the Retul system for many years and it provides great success and rider feedback is excellent. When Specialized decided it was time to concentrate more on the fitting side they introduced BG Fit which is a very accurate fitting system. Specialized have now bought Retul so they now have the two best fitting options in the world and you can buy your new bike very confident it’s going to put a smile on your face.
The company has been built on giving customers the very best service possible. I think this is because Mike is still running Specialized and he still loves riding his bikes.
