Cannondale & Primera: A story of Innovation
Cannondale started back in 1971 and the first product was a cycle trailer called the Bugger. This at the time was the first cycle trailer you could buy so since day one Cannondale started to produce innovative products. It’s this innovation that lies in the heart and soul of Cannondale and this is evident if you look back through the history of Cannondale.
The first bike they produced was the ST-500 touring. This bike featured a TIG welded, aluminium frame with oversized tubing. This was at a time when the majority of bikes on the market still had skinny steel tubing. Cannondale still make amazing aluminium framed bikes today and are still innovating in this area. The new aluminium CAAD 12 road bike is a work of art and is manufactured using a new process that is very similar to how carbon is layered.
The innovation isn’t only found on their frames, Cannondale also made some key developments with suspension:
The most notable development is the Headshock fork which paved the way to the legendary Lefty; probably the most iconic and best performing suspension fork on the market today.
They also had some pioneering rear suspension including a very early virtual pivot system.
At Primera we started our journey with Cannondale back in 2006 and it was great to have the brand on board, and we haven’t looked back since. Every year we see new ideas, designs and models coming through. Going to the new season launch is always a highlight on our calendar and we always leave buzzing and wanting a new Cannondale. Primera stores carry a great range of Cannondale bikes with most members of staff riding a model from them. Cannondale bikes always have fantastic rider feedback and excellent after sales from Cannondale gives great piece of mind.
