Bournemouth Jubilee Wheelers Road Race 14/05/17
Matt Downie Primera-TeamJobs took the win in the Purbeck based Road Race.
Very fast race with some riders wanting to split the race from the start, attack after attack until a four man group went off the front and looked like it was going to stay! With no one having an easy ride during the 10 lap race with nearly 5,000ft of climbing riders were getting dropped each lap.
Who missed the break? Matt Downie, Calum Croft & Nic Mckibbin to name a few big names. With riders like Mike Ford up the road Downie knew he had to get across before the gap got too big! In a flash he was over with Calum Croft! I think at that point everyone knew the winner was going to come from that group.
Nic Mckibbin from Bath CC, but wearing a Primera jersey for the day had a great attempt at getting over, in-form Nic looked good and made in-roads into the leaders but as they pushed on with them all winding the pace up it was not going to happen.
At the half way point the whole field looked tired and the course and conditions started to take its toll on riders, hot and windy conditions and the fast pace had most riders suffering. Bottles were being held up and gels ripped open in a bid for riders to get to the finish.
It was never going to be an easy day with riders Mike Ford, Calum Croft, Matt Downie & TJ Key involved. Matt also got the most aggressive rider award which was well received by the hardworking rider. Event organiser Bob Richardson of Bournemouth Jubilee Wheelers is a competitive racer himself and put on a great event, lots of happy spectators, committed riders and awesome volunteers made for a great day.
Well done everyone involved.
Race was fast with riders fully committed, cake was awesome and well deserved by riders and helpers!
