Gravel riding has been in Primera's blood for years! As schoolboy racers going through the cycling club progress when club runs would take you off road on your road bike great memories were made. Across fields, through forests and down canal tow paths, it was all a great way of an introduction to adventure cycling. These days we have an amazing range of purpose designed Gravel/Adventure machines and they are very exciting. Bigger tyres, more clearance for mud, ability to carry luggage it’s all there for you to begin traffic free adventure cycling.
So what makes a Gravel bike so different to a normal road bike. Gravel bikes come with wider tyres which have a more aggressive tread pattern, wider for comfort and aggressive for more grip. Some of the bikes like the Cannondale Topstone come with a cyclocross chainset at the front, smaller rings so you can get up the rough climbs with ease. Handle bars are a different profile, wider at the bottom for more leverage on fast decents and more clearance for a handlebar bag which can carry your kit. We also stock a range of Gravel bike handlebar tape offering more grip and greater comfort. We are the largest Gravel bike stockist in Bournemouth and Poole, Gravel bikes in Dorset are a must! We have such great trails to get you away from traffic, and if you venture over to the New Forest we have miles and miles of linked tracks. Traffic free riding with the odd horse, deer or wild pig being the only traffic you have to look out for.
So you’ve chosen your new bike, self sufficient luggage attached with enough space to carry spares and clothing to keep you safe, mobile and comfortable regardless of what’s round the corner. As a rider there is no better feeling than leaving the house with your camping gear strapped to your bike, you are ready for fun on two wheels and that feeling of freedom will always stay with you.
Let’s have a look at a few models, if you are commuting, riding for fun or racing we have something for everyone.
BORN TO ADVENTURE
Named after a favourite dirt road loop near the Cannondale headquarters in Connecticut, Topstone has been designed from the track up for Gravel riding. With its larger rugged tyres, confident rider position and sporty handling, it is ready to smash out the miles on tracks, explore new routes, or just put a smile on your face on your morning commute.
A capable, versatile gravel road rig - pure and simple.

Primera verdict, probably one of the best gravel bikes on the market for the money. We love the clearance and tyre choice, fun bike on rough tracks as long as you run a lower tyres pressure.
The Diverge is more capable than ever. And with the constant goal to meet your needs, Specialized took your number one request into account—tyre clearance. The new frame will comfortably fit up to 700x42mm (or 650b x 47mm) tyres with plenty of room for mud, too. Lots of our Gravel customers run two pairs of wheels, 1 x 700c and a pair of 650b Hope wheels. Along with tyre clearance, weight was a large factor in the development, and taking some design cues from the development of the Roubaix, they developed a FACT 9r carbon frame that’s one of the lightest in its category.
Next up, they moved away from a traditional ‘cross geometry, instead opting for something that hasn’t been seen before—their Open Road Geometry. You can think of it as a road version of modern trail bike geometry. It provides playful handling and predictable steering for endless dirt skids and mid-corner drifts. The geo features a bottom bracket that's over a half-centimetre lower than the previous Diverge, a slacked-out head tube angle, short chainstays, and a short wheelbase. These changes make for a bike that's not only fun in the dirt, but also performs well on the road. You will keep seeing the word ‘Adventure’ appear, it’s an exciting word which we run our lives by.
While riding gravel and dirt roads on a road bike may add to the adventure, there’s only so much that wider tyres with lower pressures can absorb, in terms of bumps. With this in mind, Specialized implemented a new version of the Future Shock into the Diverge design. It not only soaks up bumps with ease, but also adds the benefit of extremely predictable handling. That's because the wheelbase isn’t lengthening when you hit a bump, so the front end of the Diverge keeps the same effective head tube angle. In other words, when you dive hard into a turn, you won’t be surprised by under-steer or sloppy handling. Unlike the original Future Shock (found on the Roubaix), the Diverge's version features a progressive spring that makes this technology more suitable for off-road applications, where stiffer suspension is often needed to soak-up larger bumps and obstacles.
Primera verdict, loving the future shock system which takes out the constant track shock. Looks cool and refined with stunning frame quality.
Allow us to introduce the Cross Race C:62 Pro - a sleek, carbon-framed race bike designed to excel in the muddy hell of competitive cyclocross. Beginning with a chassis crafted from our premium C:62 carbon, we added our full carbon 'cross-specific fork, Mavic's new Aksium Allroad Disc wheelset shod with Schwalbe's X-One Kevlar tyres, and Shimano's new Ultegra groupset complete with hydraulic disc brakes. It's all designed to help you cut through both the mud and the competition. Don't get cross. Get the Cross Race C:62 Pro instead.
Our engineers love working with carbon for its low weight, high strength and incredible versatility. For the Cross Race C:62 Pro frame, they applied some lateral thinking. Racers love internal cable routing, because it keeps gear shifts reliably slick in even the filthiest of conditions. But what it the cables were routed directly into the head tube? The result is a super-clean look, no cable rub on the frame and even lower weight, because we don't need to reinforce the down tube to accept cable holes. Win, win, win. Changeable inserts allow a future upgrade to electronic shifting, and we built five frame sizes so you can be assured of the perfect fit. And of course, the whole lot is made from our C:62 carbon for the best combination of low weight and high performance.
Primera verdict, we really do rate this model as a fast Gravel bike. With its carbon frame at the heart it just loves to be pushed fast, responsive fun ride.
