Best TT Bike Ever Ridden
I have owned a fair few TT bikes over the years. It started with a Cougar and only because Chris Boardman raced one. That was 1992 and things have changed quite a lot since then. Towards the end of 2014 I was looking to replace my race bike. I'd moved on from the Cougar to a Cervello P3. While that was a fantastic bike things had moved on in the 8 or 9 years I'd had it. I only had one bike on my (very) short list, a Specialized Shiv TT.
You only have to see any pro TT to see the amount of Shivs being ridden to tour and world championships wins. I have always admired how clean and free of horrible cables they looked, and as we all should know, cables in the wind=drag. The frame is sold as a module, which means you get the frame, handle bars with LOTS of shims to adjust the height of the arm pads, brakes, seat post and one of the lightest and stiffest chainsets around (they also look pretty awesome as well) complete with ceramic bearings. All you really need to add is wheels.
To say I was fairly excited to pick my bike up is an understatement. Steve at Primera Sports did his usual amazing job of building it up for me.
I did a few turbo sessions to get used to the new set up. It felt awesome, even on the turbo, and I knew that my idea to bring my arms up into the current TT position (think Wiggins or Tom Domoulin) was right.
My first proper race was on a very wet day, and as I did no road riding over the winter because I had a bad accident and broke my arm, I was really nervous. The bike was amazing. Really stable and not super twitchy as a lot of TT bikes are, it's also comfortable and super stiff, it's not easy to get both. Now at the end of the year and I've done a whole season on the shiv, what do I think? 20 wins and PB's speak volumes. Best bike I've ever had, no question. (Posted on 03/11/2015)
