Ian Legg reports on a week of 2nds and 3rds.
In between the rain showers of Monday Jay Eastwood and myself made the journey to race the last of the Luggershall summer series.
Jay got into the racing extremely quickly and set about attacking and coving every move that went up the road. His legs must of been feeling amazing as each time I thought about attacking Jay was already up the road.
With around 8 laps to go I finally got in a break with 4 other riders. Everyone was working well together and we edged out a 200 meter lead. To my amazement we still had this lead with 1 lap to go. On the last lap the bunch sprung into life and quickly closed down on the break. Just before the last corner the front of the main bunch made contact. Luckily for myself I was on the front and pushed on around the corner. Sprinting out of the last bend it looked like the win was going to be mine only to be caught on the line. Jay sprinted in just behind in 3rd place after going the long way around the bunch on the final corner.
Wednesday was the E/1/2 at Portsmouth for which Primera Specialized were there in force. With a larger than normal field and no wind it looked like it was going to be a fast night. From the gun the field got straight up to 50kmph and lined out. Primera Specialized covered every move pushing the pace to try and force a group clear. With no wind it looked like this would be an impossible job as all the moves came back after a couple of laps freedom.
With around 20 minutes to go Toby Neave finally forced a move clear with two over riders. This group quickly gained 150 meters. A rider went to jump over and was covered by myself. We went over the gap to the lead group giving Primera Specialized two riders in the front group.
Ten minutes to go and the lap was gained. Led by Jay Eastwood both myself and Toby moved to the front of the bunch to stay out of trouble. With 5 to go Will Stephenson slotted in front of Jay to start a great lead out. Will slowly wound up the pace to 50kmph, with 2 lap remaining Jay took over. The bell lap Jay put in an amazing effort and was out of the saddle upping the pace further. With around 250meters to go I started my sprint. Kicking hard I led around the final bend only to be passed in the final meters. Toby rolled in for a great 3rd place.
I have now had four 2nd places in a row and the team as gained 2nd and 3rd place in 3 races over the past week. I feel this shows the form the team has at the moment and I can only predict another win for the team will come very soon.
