Specialized confirm 29ers the next big thing
Top international bike designer and manufacturer Specialized has confirmed that 29 inch wheels are to be the next big thing for mountain bikes in the UK in 2011. Brandon Sloan, research and development head for the company, told how the larger wheel size has already proven extremely popular in the US.
It has been much slower to take off in the UK so far, but now it seems the tide is finally turning and more cyclists will say adios to the old 26er designs which are set to become dated quite quickly in 2011.
The larger wheels will be very useful to cyclists as they will be better at surmounting the obstacles often found in rough terrain.
Brandon Sloan has confirmed in a recent interview that the ride quality will be so much better than on the standard 26er and that the company feel they have really got the design specifications right on the new bikes conforming to the new wheel size.
This is a huge development for mountain biking in general and it looks as though 2011 is going to be a very exciting year indeed.
