If you are looking to improve your fitness over winter have you thought of getting involved in track riding?

With the recent success of the GB cycling team on the track most cyclists have witnessed some great racing on the wooden boards.
We are lucky enough to have some great venues in the UK with indoor tracks, if you fancy improving your riding and bike skills  it is well worth having a go. London, Newport, Cardiff, Derby and Glasgow all have fantastic international indoor tracks with regular training and race leagues in progress every week. In you live in the South you might have heard of Calshot Track in Southampton? It's a tight wooden track which is indoors so whatever the weather the riding continues. Some of the Primera boys ride Calshot throughout winter and really benefit from the coached sessions there.

You can book a taster day at one of these tracks and if you enjoy it you could well end up as a track racer! Check out the British Cycling website for venues and sessions, give them a call and give it a go. Apart from a little variety in your cycling you can also make great improvements to your riding. Leg speed, bike skills, riding in a group are all areas your can gain great new experiences.

If you do not own your own bike, that is not a problem, all tracks hold a great range of hire bikes which are very affordable.

At Primera we sell a range of track bikes from Cervelo, Cannondale, Specialized and Pinarello.

Cervelo T4 comes as a frameset with a full list of build options.

It's available in a full size range and one of the finest track frames available.

Used by the GB track team in many world class events making the T4 a very serious and desirable track frame.

Specialized Langster track bikes start from £575 which will get you started. But first of all, before investing in your own track bike we would recommend hiring one from the velodrome you are booked into. Make sure it's for you, then the skies the limit when it comes to building your dream machine. One great thing about track racing is the bike stays in excellent condition, most racing can be done indoors, on outdoor tracks if it's wet or raining the racing is off.

Why? The banking is steep and can be slippy, wet banking and track tyres do not mix well. So if you want a fast, clean sport which on indoor tracks can continue whatever the weather get a session booked!
